Los Angeles Vocational Academy of the Arts (LAVAArts) is one of AU’s vocational training programs.
The goal of LAVAArts is to help students identify their career aspirations and develop action plans that make their dreams a reality.
Based on students’ interests, LAVAArts will create self-sustainable micro-enterprises that offer students an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in their chosen profession as well as an opportunity to run and operate a small business.
LAVAArts will also be developing internships with local businesses to provide students the opportunity to connect with employers in their profession. As part of the internship development process, Autism Unites provides autism education awareness to management and staff at no cost to the employer.
All services of LAVAArts incorporate the Match A Friend model of community integration. Match A Friend companions are carefully screened and trained by Autism Unites and are typically college students or newly graduated. They are matched to the young adult based on common vocational interests and compatible personalities.
