INTERVIEW WITH PAUL D’ADAMO

Susan Osborne, the Executive Director of Autism Unites
interviewed Paul D’Adamo about his connection with autism

Susan: What is your connection with autism?
Paul: Shortly after I opened the D’Adamo School of Performing Arts in 2002, I was asked by a parent to teach music to her two young children. Both had autism. One was non-verbal and loved listening to music. I had no previous experience working with children or adults with special needs, just a love of performing, recording, and teaching music. But my experience working with these children changed my life and changed it for the better.
.
S:
Could you elaborate on: “my experience working with these children changed my life for the better”.
P: In my years of teaching, my students on the autism spectrum have taught me much more than I have ever taught them. Nothing is more satisfying than hearing a parent say “You are my child’s favorite teacher” and “Thank you for being so patient with our son when others were not.” As a signed recording artist, these comments are priceless and worth more to me than any Grammy or platinum album that I could ever hope to be awarded in my career.

.
S: What is the reason for your partnership with Autism Unites?
P: Why did I choose to support Autism Unites? It’s very simple. This organization is run with such tenderness and compassion, doing what’s best to make us all more socially aware of the indifference that these precious human beings often experience.
 .
S: Could you tell me about your collaboration with Lee Curreri?
P: Lee is a great musician & actor, aka “Bruno Martelli” of the original hit movie and TV Series FAME. He’s also an amazing songwriter and producer, and it was an honor to collaborate with him on this project.
The rest can be told when you download our work.
Thank you for your support!
We appreciate your appreciation!
