UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
FOR YOUNG ADULTS WITH AUTISM

AUGUST 4 to AUGUST 29
Weekdays from 9 am to 2:30 pm

SUPPORT IN A MOTIVATING ENVIRONMENT

  • Students have a one-on-one companion who is available at all times during classroom instruction and community outings incorporating the Match A Friend model of community integration

  • Student/companion team collaboratively problem solve, make positive social connections, and proactively manage stress, and self-advocate

  • The result: an environment where everyone feels accepted, supported, nurtured, and understood

STUDENTS IDENTIFY CAREER GOALS

  • Students identify their top two to three dream careers.
  • Team researches the experience/educational requirements and pay ranges for each job
  • Team contacts the management of business within the students chosen career and schedule informational interview to get advise on their own career path.  

STUDENTS LEARN IMPORTANT SKILLS in FINDING A JOB

  • Students learn how to make a good impression and DRESS FOR SUCCESS
  • Students learn what to do before, during and after the interview and interview essentials
  • Students receive professional advice from GUEST SPEAKERS within the local business community

STUDENTS RECEIVE INSTRUCTION IN ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS

  • Students will learn the fundamentals of the ART OF CONNECTION and the first four guiding principles: Presence, Order, Focus and Respect.  These are the pillars of Match A Friend™ model of community integration.
  • Students learn how to keep calm and focused using MINDFULNESS MEDITATION
  • Students learn ORGANIZATION & strengthening EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING skills using the tools available on Google
  • Students learn how to SELF REGULATE and self-advocate for their sensory needs
  • Students learn COMMUNITY SAFETY with law enforcement in an interactive screening of BE SAFE THE MOVIE facilitated by Emily Iland

STUDENTS EXPERIENCE JOY THROUGH CREATIVE EXPRESSION

  • REHEARSING FOR LIFE™ based on the principles of Elaine Hall’s THE MIRACLE PROJECT taught by their master teachers
  • Weekly participation in DRUM CIRCLE

PRACTICE CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION IN AUTHENTIC ENVIRONMENTS

  • COMMUNITY OUTINGS offer students an opportunity to use what’s been learned in the classroom in real world situations
