The First Guild Enterprises
Through our years of work with young people with and without autism, and our encounter with the staggering theme of disconnection, grew an understanding and desire to provide a way for all people to connect with themselves and their innate qualities.
The idea of connection between people from different walks of life through business was born out of the extraordinary bond between Adam, a young man with severe autism and his 22 year-old caregiver, Cole. The connection between these two changed the life of both, and the lives of those around them.
Being with Adam lead Cole to realize his true interests and potential, and choose a career path close to his heart and through which he could bring much value to the world (read our History). Being with Cole, gave Adam a deeply sincere experience of friendship and connection that transcended what is considered possible for an individual with severe autism.
The dynamic between Adam and Cole gave birth to a new perception, through which emerged the model called Match-A-Friend, a new, synergistic, value-driven way of seeing the relationships between people.
Over the next several years Match-A-Friend and the “Art of Connection” concept broadened and evolved. In 2016, the organization called The First Guild (TFG) emerged with a slogan disclosing the very essence of what the entity is all about: “Crafting your Identity.”
TFG Enterprises branch is dedicated to helping individuals get in touch with who they are by discovering their innate qualities through various forms of expressive art. Using the Match-A-Friend model, these individuals can team up with with like minded collaborators in entrepreneurial projects with a unifying end goal. The result is people who derive meaning and satisfaction from expressing who they are seeing value in what they do, with a significant, tangible contribution to the world through their sustainable business.
Currently, The First Guild Enterprises team is preparing to work with Gerson Sanginitto, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master to expand his center and make his services available to kids in public schools. Jiu-Jitsu is the fastest growing martial art in the world and Gerson believes that Jiu-Jitsu is a vehicle for personal development (both physically and mentally) and, when taught correctly, helps you quickly become stronger, more flexible, disciplined and confident.
The First Guild community outreach member, Tarjei Hass who trains at Gerson Sanginitto’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy (http://gersonsanginittobjj.com/) says:
My vision is to bring Jiu-Jitsu to schools. My Jiu-Jitsu training with Gerson gave me the structure that I so desperately needed. I believe that learning the art of Jiu-Jitsu helps to develop strong and healthy identity. My vision is to bring this to the world.
